Image source Cedar Ridge, Stony Point, McNeil, Westwood and Round Rock are all included in this varsity football roundup, covering October 8–9 results and the Dragons’ latest completed game.
Cedar Ridge beat Lake Travis 35–34 on Friday, October 9. The road win was decided by one point, with the teams combining for 69 points—the closest finish among this roundup’s three October 8–9 contests.
Stony Point defeated McNeil 57–39 that same Friday. The Tigers won by 18 in a matchup with 96 combined points. McNeil’s school-specific result is a 39–57 loss; these are two perspectives on one game.
Westwood lost to Westlake 57–0 on Thursday, October 8. That Warriors result is separate from Round Rock’s earlier game against the same opponent.
Round Rock had no varsity game listed for October 8–9. Its official schedule shows the latest completed result as a 17–38 loss at Westlake on October 1. The Dragons next list Westwood at Dragon Stadium on October 16 at 7 p.m.
Check school calendars and district athletics information for current tickets, venues and spectator guidance. Match the varsity schedule when checking results. Scores were checked October 12; the accompanying local football images are contextual.

Regional leaders at the October 1, 2026 CTXGO launch at Austin City Hall. Photo: City of Austin Transportation and Public Works. Image source CTXGO launched October 1 as a free app and companion website for planning travel around Central Texas construction. The regional tool presents traffic, work-zone and route-planning information, with the website also advertising EV charging locations and toll-free routes.
For Round Rock residents traveling into Austin, its value is checking the whole journey before leaving rather than discovering a lane reduction at the final downtown turn. Separately, the city announced utility tie-in work at Fifth and Lavaca beginning the week of October 12.
Fifth Street is scheduled to be reduced to one lane from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily for about six weeks, followed by approximately four weeks of two-lane operation on Lavaca. The later Lavaca phase involves around-the-clock work, while Fifth Street is to have two lanes available.
Review current route information, leave flexibility for access and follow posted construction signs. Check updates from a safe parked location and share parking or pickup plans with anyone meeting you downtown.
Details checked October 12; planned durations and lane arrangements may change. Doris Miller Auditorium at Rosewood Neighborhood Park. Photo: City of Austin Parks and Recreation. Image source Doris Miller Auditorium became an Austin historic landmark on October 8, with the parks department announcing the designation the following day. The building is at 2300 Rosewood Avenue in Rosewood Neighborhood Park.
Its history includes a recreation facility opened in 1944 for Black service members during segregation, later named for Navy Cross recipient Doris “Dorie” Miller. The surrounding Rosewood complex continues to support recreation and community programming, and the auditorium is listed for sports, fitness activities and Notes 4 Notes.
Current facility information lists auditorium and recreation-center hours as 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Friday, with weekends closed. Confirm the program or event you want to attend because activities and rental arrangements may differ from general hours.
For Round Rock families planning a visit, the designation is a chance to learn about an important East Austin gathering place. It does not announce a new museum exhibition or a public tour.

ACL Festival grounds at Zilker Park in the city's October 9, 2026 update. Photo: City of Austin Parks and Recreation. Image source Austin’s recent updates set out how Zilker Park’s Great Lawn will recover after ACL Festival, with portions expected to stay closed as restoration work progresses. An October 9 account described preparation between the two festival weekends, including aeration, irrigation checks, rut repairs and protection for heavily used surfaces.
Those measures were pre-weekend work; they do not establish that post-festival repairs are finished. An October 6 statement says the promoter is financially responsible for restoring affected parkland and that city staff oversee repair timelines, testing and approvals.
Planned rehabilitation can include water removal, soil aeration, treatment and new grass where needed. No firm full-reopening date is established in the two updates.
Sections are to reopen as work allows, with annual maintenance and Trail of Lights arrangements also contributing to partial closures. For a Round Rock family planning an Austin outing, check the specific lawn, facility or attraction rather than assuming either unrestricted access or a park-wide closure.
Review current notices before leaving and follow fences and signs on arrival. Details checked October 12; photographs are labeled for their actual context. CapMetro train at Leander station, February 2009. Photo: Greg3564 / Wikimedia Commons, CC BY-SA 3.0; resized for display. Image source · License CapMetro’s weekday rail changes take effect October 12. The official alert removes the 6:07 a.m. southbound departure from Leander and the 7:20 a.m. northbound departure from Downtown.
The final northbound weekday train from Downtown shifts about 20 minutes later to 7:42 p.m. Those are terminal departure times, so riders boarding elsewhere should check their own station’s row in the updated timetable.
Saturday service is unchanged, and the weekday adjustments remain in place until the January 10, 2027 service change. Watch for eliminated-trip markings in the published timetable; a crossed-out column does not represent an available train.
Round Rock residents connecting to rail should review the entire journey, including the trip to the station and the return connection. CapMetro suggests Express or local buses as alternatives for affected riders, but the right option depends on the actual origin and destination.
Use current trip planning and check fare requirements before committing to a replacement route. Customer-service assistance is available at 512-474-1200.
